Our baby and toddler setting in the heart of Hockley
Jelly Beans Nursery is expressly designed for our youngest children — from birth through to age three. Located in the Catholic Church building on Southend Road, Hockley, it provides a warm, beautifully prepared Montessori environment where babies and toddlers thrive.
We have two dedicated rooms: our Baby Room for children aged 0–2, where the focus is on secure attachment, sensory exploration and early language; and our Toddler Room for children aged 2–3, where independence, movement and self-care take centre stage.
Every child begins with a personal settling-in programme, and every child has a key person who knows them well and builds a secure, trusting relationship with them and their family.
Everything your baby or toddler needs to flourish.
Each child has a dedicated key person who provides consistent, loving care and builds a secure base from which they can explore.
Rich sensory experiences — sand, water, texture, light and sound — support brain development and ignite curiosity from the very start.
Songs, stories, conversation and signing build vocabulary, communication and early literacy in a warm, language-rich environment.
Practical life activities — feeding, dressing, tidying — are woven into every day, fostering self-sufficiency and a sense of pride in capability.
The people who make Jelly Beans Nursery the warm, wonderful place it is.
Area and Day Nursery Manager
As Area Manager across all Hockley sites, with a primary base at our Day Nursery, I bring over 26 years of experience working with children aged 0–14. I am passionate about creating nurturing, inspiring environments where every child is supported to grow, develop, and reach their full potential.
Since joining Jelly Beans in January 2022, I have embraced the Montessori approach, developing a strong appreciation for its child-led philosophy. I particularly enjoy bringing Montessori learning to life through thoughtful presentations of materials, encouraging independence, curiosity, and a love of learning in every child.
I hold an NNEB Diploma, a Foundation Degree in Childcare, and achieved my Level 2 Montessori qualification in 2023
Founder and Director
After giving birth to my eldest daughter, Poppy, I decided to leave my career in the music business and prepare for parenthood by becoming a Montessori Teacher. Over 20 years ago and two more daughters later, Jemima and Sophie, I have never looked back! The sheer joy of being able to nurture a child’s natural inquisitiveness and expand his/her horizons is so rewarding. In my spare time I enjoy relaxing with my family, going to the theatre, music, walking the family dog and looking after our two horses.
I set up Jelly Beans in 2004 and today I am delighted that we have grown the Jelly Beans family into a busy and popular Nursery
Baby Room Leader and Deputy Manager and SENCo
I am a dedicated childcare professional, as well as a proud wife and mum to my son. With a career in childcare spanning over two decades since 2000, I have worked my way up through a variety of roles—from room leader to my current position as deputy manager. I have experience working with children of all ages and currently lead the baby room, where I bring a nurturing, child-led approach governed by Montessori principles.
I have a real passion for creating engaging and meaningful experiences for children, especially through singing, messy play, and outdoor activities. I believe these experiences are key to supporting children’s development and fostering a love of learning.
I am also taking on the important role of SENCo within my setting, where I am committed to supporting inclusive practice and ensuring every child can thrive.
Outside of work, I enjoy running, which helps me stay active and maintain a positive work-life balance.
Accounts and Forest School Lead
Hi, my name is Sophie. I am the Accounts Manager for Jelly Beans Montessori, where I manage spaces, availability, and enquiries, ensuring everything runs smoothly for our families.
I have a background in wildlife conservation, which has given me a real appreciation for the natural world, and I am currently studying towards my Forest School Level 3. I enjoy bringing this knowledge into my role and supporting a connection with nature wherever possible. My mum, Sarah, instilled in me a love for the Montessori Method and a deep respect for the child and their process. Joining Forest School Principles with the Montessori Ethos is a truly rewarding experience.
Away from work, I enjoy horse riding, spending time with my dogs, and making the most of time with friends.
Two-Year-Old Room Lead
With over 15 years of experience in early years education, I am a dedicated Senior Childcare Practitioner and Room Leader of the toddler room. I am passionate about creating a nurturing, engaging environment where children feel safe, supported, and inspired to explore and learn.
I have a strong interest in the Montessori method of teaching, valuing its focus on independence, curiosity, and child-led learning. I strive to incorporate these principles into everyday practice, helping each child develop confidence and a love for learning at their own pace.
I truly love what I do and take pride in building positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues. I am committed to continually developing my own skills while also supporting and guiding others within the team to provide the highest standard of care and education.
Lead SENCO
Both my children have attended Jelly Beans and we instantly found a love for the Montessori approach. I could see how they excelled on a daily basis. I come from a Special Educational Needs school of 12 years starting here after qualifying with my Level 3 in childcare. I then decided to do my higher learning teaching assistant (HLTA) and studied for my Bachelor of Arts Open Degree studying courses all around childcare. I also have makaton sign language training which I have started using at Jelly Beans to teach to the children how to do some sign language. Working with and supporting children with SEN is my passion, I love to watch them develop and progress, tailoring the curriculum to suit them! I love spending time with my family and going on lots of different adventures . Family days are my favourite. I have worked with children from the age of 16 and strive to improve my learning along the way with lots of different opportunities.
